PERD

PLANTING FOR Export and Rural Development (PERD) program is a government flagship program aimed at diversifying the country’s Agricultural export capacity to include other tree crops with equal economic values as cocoa. The program has targeted six (6) crops aside Cocoa. The crops are coconut, rubber, cashew, oil palm, coffee and shea. The Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) program was launched by the Government in 2020. To execute the implementation of the project all Metropolitan Municipal District Assemblies were directed to select one of the crops and support farmers with seedlings certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support and regulatory mechanisms.
Distribution of Palm Oil seedlings to Farmers in the Municipality

On friday May 5, 2023 the MCE Distributed palm oil seedlings to farmers in the Municipality. 

50,000 oil palm seedlings was requested and 20,000 coconut seedlings from the minerals commission for the 2023 planting season.
The first consignment was received on 5th April involving 9,873 oil palm seedlings which is 164.6 acres. This was distributed to 55 farmers made up of 45 males and 10 females in 17 communities.
The second consignment was received on 5th May involving 9,733 oil palm seedlings which can plant 162.2 acres. They were distributed to 70 farmers made up of 61 males and 9 females in 27 communities. The nursery operator in both instances was Tsitse Farms.
In all we have received a total of 19,606 oil palm seedlings which can plant 326.8 acres and have distributed to 125 farmers made up of 106 males and 19 females.
