The Department of Agriculture is one of the Decentralized departments of the Municipal Assembly. It is made up of seven sectors. These are; the Crops sector, Livestock sector, Extension services, Women in Agriculture Division (WIAD), Plant Protection and Regulatory Services (PPRS), Management Information System (MIS) and Veterinary Services. Each sector is headed by a sector head Known as Municipal Agricultural Officer (MAO).
The entire Municipality is divided into sixteen operational Areas headed by field staffs known as Agric Extension Agents (AEAs)
The core mandate of the department is to lead and facilitate the implementation of agricultural programmes and activities in the municipality to ensure food security in an environmentally friendly manner while ensuring sustainable agribusiness.
The Department has a total staff strength of twenty three (23) made up of seventeen (17) males and six (6) females. This excludes ten (10) NABCO personnel

3.1 THE CROPS SECTOR
The crops sub-sector is one of the technical units of the Department of Food and Agriculture.
MISSION
To develop, promote and sustain poultry and livestock production for food security, employment creation and income generation through research, effective technical support, extension services, agri-business and industry whilst ensuring that gender and environmental issues are adequately addressed.
VISION
A well developed and efficient sector capable of formulating sound policies providing effective technical support and promoting sustainable and profitable livestock and poultry industries for food security, nutritional adequacy and enhanced incomes.

3.2 THE LIVESTOCK SECTOR
The animal production directorate (APD) is one of the technical directorates of the Department of Food and Agriculture
MISSION

FUNCTIONS
SERVICE TO PUBLIC
The sector main service to the public is provision of technical advice to prospective livestock entrepreneurs and technical backstopping to the livestock and poultry industry.
3.3 EXTENSION SERVICES
The extension services offered by the department is provision of technical advice on agriculture to farmers and supplying them with the necessary farm inputs and services to support their agricultural production. The information provided to farmers are new ideas developed by soil, crops and animal research institutions.
3.4 WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE DIVISION
Women In Agriculture Development (WIAD) is a sector under the Department of Food and Agriculture of Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly.
Vision
To enhance livelihoods of rural households and other women in terms of alternative source of livelihoods, improve nutritional status and health.
Mission
To assist rural households and other women in the agricultural sector to improve their standard of living through improved agricultural practices.

3.5 THE PLANT PROTECTION AND REGULATORY SERVICES
The Plant protection and regulatory services sub sector of the department of agriculture is mandated to contribute to sustainable reduction of crop losses caused by pest and disease control in the district.
Vision
To render efficient, environmentally safe and economically sustainable plant protection services that will meet the requirements of the clientele and thus contributing to increased food and raw material production.
Mission
To provide services in order to safeguard crop plants from losses by pests and diseases

3.6 THE VETERINARY SERVICES
INFRASTRUCTURE
The veterinary unit holds two offices (rooms). One office as a clinic for treatment of clinical cases and surgery.
The other office is for rendering administrative activities, having a refrigerator for keeping vaccines and drugs.
VETERINARY EXTENSION
Provides education or innovation to farmers. Teach farmers proper housing of animals, signs of ill health conditions in animals, proper formulation of feed and feeding of animals. Exercising bio-security measures at farms.
DISEASE PREVENTION AND CONTROL
PUBLIC HEALTH
Inspection of meat or carcass at the slaughter house for their wholesomeness. It is done everyday from 5:30am to 10am.
APRIL 2020: PLANTING FOR EXPORT AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (PERD)
Over 2000 Coconut seedlings have been distributed to 44 farmers in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Program
The Presentation was done by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Awuah, who charged the farmers to work hard to ensure the realization of the PERD Program
