The Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development held a short ceremony for People With Disabilities (PWDs) on Monday, 4th March 2024 at the forecourt of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in Dunkwa-On-Offin.
The ceremony was for People With Disabilities (PWDs) to receive their items they requested through their application to start earning an income to support their family and not be a burden to others and the community where they live.
Mr. Francis Achempong-Akropong hene, NPP Constituency Chairman Upper Denkyira East and Chairman for the ceremony expressed his appreciation for the honor given him. He welcomed everyone and accepted to chair the ceremony. He disclosed that if someone is disable, that does not mean that it is the end of that person. He indicated that no, that person do things that able person cannot do.
He added that beneficiaries should use whatever they received judiciously to reduce their burdens. He noted that beneficiaries should not sell what they received. He emphasized that from time to time, their leaders will go on monitoring to see if the items received were used for the purpose they were given out. He urged beneficiaries to use the items for the purpose it was given to them for others to benefit.
Mr. Paul Appiah-Chairman People With Disabilities (PWDs) Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly expressed his appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ebenezer Forson Appiah and the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Adam Asumah Braimah for their support to the plea of the People With Disabilities (PWDs). He appealed to beneficiaries to use the items received for the purpose it was given to them for others to benefit.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ebenezer Forson Appiah was happy to meet the People With Disabilities (PWDs). He acknowledged them for putting smiles on the face of their families by doing something. He disclosed that applications received were many. He indicated that subsequent ones will be different beneficiaries.
He urged beneficiaries to wisely use the items received for the purpose it was given to them for others to benefit. He added that in monetary values namely items and cash, the amount is Ghc 97, 000.00 in all. He encouraged all beneficiaries to work with whatever they received to help them improve in their lives. He noted that a special package will be given to all Seven Hundred and Fifty (750) People With Disabilities (PWDs) of the Municipality.
Mr. Prince H. Harison-Municipal Director GEA/BAC Head Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly that the Government in collaboration with the Master Card Foundation and the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) have come with a program called Business in a Box. He indicated that the program has many modules/components such as Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship; Agriculture, Agribusiness to Entrepreneurship; MS Business Acceleration; Skilled Craft Personnel; Start Up Kits among others. He added that Business in a Box this is how is all about.
Sixty-Three (63) beneficiaries received their items based on their applications which were made up of Fridges, Fufu Pounding Machines, Sewing Machines, Spraying Machine and Cash.
In his closing remarks, the chairman expressed his appreciations to everyone for the success of the ceremony. He appealed to all beneficiaries to take good care of the items for others to benefit.
